I've been violated.

I just had my bank call to tell me my credit card had been used for three different purchases on-line yesterday. The amount was over $1,000 dollars! They will get a new card to me in the next 10 days. Big help!

Well, isn't that just dandy!!! What am I supposed to do in the meantime? Fortunately, I have a husband that works. But, I am on S.S. Disability. Who's going to give me money until I get my check the 2nd Wednesday of next month? What if I didn't have a husband who worked and my cupboards were bare?
What would I do? One of my checks was to my new church. Well, won't they just be happy to have me as a member?

Please be careful where you shop on-line!

I don't know what else to say, but that certainly ruined my day.

Getting Ready for Valentine's Day!

Two of my little helpers were over to spend Saturday night.

They helped me make these little hearts for my Valentine's tree.

Before we started my tree, Nicholas found a small branch from a tree in our yard. He and Chloe made special Valentine ornaments for it for their Mom. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of it.

THE MASTER BEDROOM BEDDING IS COMPLETE.

I made the pillowcases in a color I liked. I've done them before for my grandsons with fishing and hunting fabric. They are just a lot more fun than what you can find in a store.

They are soft and the room needed some extra color. I made them in about 1/2 an hour.

Next I made (what my husband calls) show pillows. They are so easy to make if you keep it simple. I found great fabric (for $4.00 a yard). I basically made a big pillowcase (I had king sized pillows to fill them). I made two ties for the end of the case and it's done.

We like big pillows because we like to read in bed.

We both slept like babies last night.

I got the little bird house note cage at Hobby Lobby for $9.99. I almost ordered one from a catalog for $45.00. Thank goodness I checked around.

Isn't it cute and it has little bird magnets to hold on papers or notes.

WAR HORSE

I went with my grandson and a friend of his today to see the movie, War Horse. It was wonderful. Having grown up on a farm with lots of horses, I knew it would be terrific and it didn't disappoint.

Sometimes it's just the little things...

I've gotten kind of tired of the knobs that were on the cabinets in the Master Bath. Yesterday I stopped at Hobby Lobby for some safety pins (like I would ever get out of there with just that). Well, I went by the isle that has knobs for cabinets and what did I find but a 50% off sale.

So now we have these really pretty glass knobs.

They just kind of sparkle when I go in there.

$5.98 each and I got them for $2.99 each.

If I get time this weekend, I'll show you the other goodies I found. Everything was on sale that I bought.

Do any of you have kids living nearby and you always have something you need to return to them? I used the things above, along with baskets to make returning easier.

Master Bedroom

We finally had to get rid of our king-sized bed and switch to twins. My hands are where the worst of my arthritis is and I just couldn't lift the mattress to make those hospital corners.

Now I've got to figure out what to do about a headboard. It has to fit just perfectly, since the lights are in the space they are in. I would like to find an old door or maybe we will have to build a headboard.

Any ideas?

THE TREES ARE TRIMMED

You can really see how they trimmed beside the pool. They also removed several trees.
Looks like the knocked over my brick wall. I've got to get my little helpers over to build it back.

They took out a couple of trees along this tree line and I'm now able to see my Camellia's.

They pruned my tulip tree (it's sort of like a Magnolia but it drops its leaves in the winter). They also pruned my Yoshino Cherry tree. I can't wait to see the blossoms in the Spring.

These trees belong to our neighbor, so they weren't part of our trim.

These three Leland Cypress were trim and also the maple tree.

These are the three maple trees that surround the screened porch.

With this maple tree, I was always worried a big storm would come along and break one of the big limbs. Its just in front of the guest room and I could have one of my grandchildren hurt.

Well, now comes the cleanup. We've got twigs to pick up, stones to move and a garden to get ready for Spring.

A little trimming and pruning around our little homestead.

OK, when we moved to South Carolina and bought our little cottage (with not a lick of trees or landscaping) I thought we needed to add lots of shade and privacy. Well I was right, but I was wrong too. We should have paid a landscape architect to tell us what to do.

I was looking for privacy between our houses and got complete blockage.

Their chipper made ours look like a push lawn mover.

We barely had any sunlight hitting the pool anymore. A must for a real SC tan and to get the grandkids to come over.

These are going to look sooo good.

One of the trees back here I thought pruning would kill it. Silly me.

These guys even tackled the trees I planted to shade the screened porch. They were huge!

These Leland Cypress really got a haircut, as did the maple tree.

What a mess!

They trimmed down the two hemlocks in our yard. They are my prized trees in the yard. They remind me of the camp my parents had once in PA.

I bought this Hex sign about a year ago. Since Mr. Bird Nest wasn't working yesterday, I talked him into hanging it. What a great day it was too, 65 degrees and sunny.

Nicholas Stays on Saturday Night with Chloe

This is them looking all comfy Saturday night in the TV room. Nicholas was up at 4:00 a.m. to hunt crows with his dad and then they hunted does all afternoon and early evening.

Since there was no Steeler game on Sunday, (they won Thursday night) we decided to do a puzzle after we ate cinnamon rolls.

We got this puzzle last summer when we were shopping.

Nicholas and I finished it before we had to meet his Dad for lunch. Papa took us all to Fuddruckers for Nicholas' birthday. It wasn't really the adults choice but the kids love the games there. He will be 10 on Thursday, December 15.

Cloe Spends Two Nights

Santa visited our neighborhood on Sunday.

My Favorite Santa

To me, this is a very special Santa. When my oldest son Rick was a Navy Seabee in Japan he sent home this Santa for me one Christmas. I've only ever seen one other like it and that was in a decorating magazine.

He was stationed there for about 5 years but it seemed more like 20 to me.

I don't know exactly what he's made of but it must be sea grass, wood and reeds.

Isn't he special? The man who bought him is very special too.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at our house..

This is my 2nd favorite Santa that I got from one of the best guys I ever worked for. (Well, the secret was his wife knew everything I loved.) They used to take my husband and I out to dinner at a 4 or 5* restaurant every year at Christmastime and then we went back to their house and I opened packages from them for about an hour. They were the sweetest people I've ever worked for and they still wine and dine us every year and I've been retired for 3 years. She is one of my very best friends.

This is a Santa I bought from an artist who is deceased now. She used to have a show every Christmas and a friend and I never missed it.

Last year we gave away our big tree and went to a tabletop tree. With my rheumatoid arthritis, it was just too much work for me.

These are Goebel's that my mother gave to me at Christmas the last six years she was with us. I found two I didn't have in an antique shop in PA this spring for $15.00. These will go to my sweet granddaughter's someday.

These are more Santa's that I have gotten. As you'll notice, almost all of them have birds, nests or bird houses with them.

I dressed up our chandelier with gold and silver this year.

More Santa's and some snowmen along with some china plates, cups and a tureen from my old boss and his wife.

I love to put groupings together that make me happy.

The table is set.

We have our Spode china out.

Our tree centerpiece will have cards with all the things we are grateful for.

The turkey breasts are ready to go in the oven.

The kitchen is ready to go.

Even the electric knife is out for the turkey.

The potatoes are pared.

The turkey breasts all stuffed and cooking away.

New Rug...

Since we moved the couch out of the living room, the rug we had just wasn't big enough and these chairs were scratching the hardwoods.

Hud suggested we look on-line. First he went to Pottery Barn. After his heart started beating again (when he saw the prices) he said let's check Home Depot. This was about the 3rd carpet I looked at and I loved it. It got great reviews and I ordered it online (free shipping).

We were not disappointed when it arrived. It's beautiful and it has so many colors it goes with everything. It will also hide any spills the grandchildren might have. That's always a good choice.

A Thanksgiving Tree...

I got this little tree from a catalog the company sent me. I'm going to use it as my centerpiece on the Thanksgiving table. Everyone will write on little tags what they are thankful for and we'll tie them to the tree. I'll take a picture when the table is all set so that you can see how it turns out.

Cool new look for the bed...

I saw a pillow like this on a blog and decided I needed one. I got a big body pillow at Target for about $10.00 and then just used fabric I had around the house.

I love the look of it on the bed. Hud just snarled. "Is this something we have to take off the bed every night?" I wanted to say yep but I said no it is for me to lay my knee on.

It's so soft and squishy I wanted to take a nap today. Maybe tomorrow.

Nicholas is lovin' football.

My picture is a little blurry but the statistics aren't. Nicholas just finished his 2nd year of tackle football and he has the trophy to prove it.

Last night his team played in a tournement and lost. Nicholas got mowed over by one big player and just jumped up and went back to his stance. From there on, he tackled anyone he got near. I think he's finally gotten his Papa's killer instinct on the football field and the style his daddy had on the wrestling mat for 4 varsity letters. To me that's a "good thing".

Making a dog bed...

This was a new adventure for me with my sewing machine. Mallie needed a new bed and it took me a while to figure it out.

I used an egg crate doubled to make it soft.

I got a sheet at Target to use for the material.

I made a pocket in the back like they do for some pillows. I hope you can see it.

This was the pad I made for her kennel with some fabric I already had.

The nice part about these is that they are both washable.

Ladies Who Lunch..

A Fall Centerpiece for the Island...

I went to lunch with some friends yesterday and then went to one of the girls houses to see her new kitten. (Also, her home is just gorgeous and I was dying to see how it was decorated for fall.) I was not disappointed.

I'm not really a cat person, mainly because I'm very allergic to cat dander. Well, of course, as soon a we sat down that cat was all over me. It never got near any of the other girls. I drove like 90 miles an hour to get home and shower and take a Benedryl.

Well, anyway.....

A brighter look for the hallway..

Our hallway just seemed so dark now that fall has arrived and so, of course, we repainted. Hud had a few days off and he painted the upper part of the wall a pale yellow and I did some of the white and touched up.

This is what it looks like down the hallway.

If you notice the little cow bell on the table, it is from my parents' farm. I put red and black ribbon on it (Nicholas' team colors) and we ring it at the game when they score a touchdown.

See that corner on the left of the living room. It's just not right. Now to get the hubby geared up for painting the living room and kitchen before Christmas. shh...let's not tell him just yet, OK?

Halloween Cuties

Nicholas and Chloe came over to see us before the big crowds were out.

Nicholas is a Pittsburgh Steeler again but he's changed players and number.

This year he is Troy Polamalu. Troy is a great role model for kids to have too. He lives his faith.

Chloe is a Clemson University cheerleader and Mallie is a cow.

I told you they were cuties.

A Crisp Autumn Day in North Carolina...

Mr. Bird Nest had Thursday off and we made use of the time by taking our annual drive to North Carolina. We went from our house to Inman, Campabello, Tryon, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure (where they filmed dirty dancing) and then on to Hendersonville.

They always have art that I find so much fun in Hendersonville. I knew both of my sons and grandsons would love this bear so I took several pictures of this cutie.

Two years ago on a trip back from PA we stopped at Bloomfield's Dish Barn. I bought one dozen dinner plates and one dozen dessert plates of Spode Woodland pattern.

Chris and Elizabeth gave me a dish for Christmas and I've added two mugs.

On our trip Thursday, I bought Spode's Woodland Turkey gravy boat. If I keep this up, I hope to have a full set for the boys to fight over when I'm gone.

We also ate at our favorite deli but this time I ordered a little less.

These I have been collecting since then. I'm only searching now for chalk type ones that I've found in antique shops or new ones I find.

Getting Ready For The Season..

Now don't laugh! OK, you probably are anyway and I deserve it.

I was in Hobby Lobby today and found this Santa. Now anybody who knows me, knows I love Santa's. I just couldn't pass this up for 1/2 price @12.50 for on my front porch. I going to add a little sign I'll paint. I'm thinking, "Holiday Greetings from the Gerg's".

I've got to hide this from Mr. Bird Nest. I'm restricted from buying any more Christmas decorations, EVER.

Candles We Made at the Festival...

2011 FestiFall at Walnut Grove Plantation

Mr. Bird Nest and I took Chloe and Nicholas to this plantation that was established in the 1750's. It's only about 8 miles from our house and what a wonderful fall learning day we had.

Chloe had one of the ladies there help her make this corn husk doll.

These were some of the participants.

Chloe wanted to climb the hay bales in the barn and I was there wishing I could climb them like I did when I was growing up.

They were having a war reinactment that actually happened during the Revolutionary War.

I loved the smell of woodsmoke but I'll take my stove anyday.

The red coats have arrived.

The indian costume was incredible.

Here are Nicholas, Chloe and I making candles by dipping string in hot wax. We had to keep circling until our candles got big enough.

A good time was had by all.

When we got home, Nicholas went to Papa's work bench and found a piece of wood. He drilled holes in it to put our candles in and had them all measured out. Sunday morning we ate our pancakes by candlelight.

Seashells from the Seashore...

No, I haven't been to the beach. I wish. I got this box of shells at T.J.Maxx last week for $7.50. It has shells with sand and a little bit of rice in it and lots of shells and starfish.

The box has beveled glass and as you can see, you can turn it around and change what you see. The grandchildren loved it!

Changes in the Living Room...

After moving out the couch, I had to make some changes in the living room.

I still need to organize these shelves a little bit.

I put the chairs from the T.V. room in the living room.

Updating the sofa...

I went to several stores today to try to find pillows to update the sofa. These were what I found at Target and I'm very happy with my choices. The two pillows on the ends have a beautiful blue color in them and I think that's the color I'm going to paint the room. The bad part is that I still have the paint I bought for the hallway (3 months ago) and I need to do that first. I used to like to paint but I don't find the satifaction in doing it that I used to. To tell the truth it really sucks.

What is missing?

Can you tell what's missing in the living room?

All of you who know me, know that I love to move my furniture around. Well, I tried all day Tuesday to move my couch from the living room into the T.V. room. I even had my son Chris over after work to try to help me. We couldn't figure it out.

Wednesday night I had a brainstorm! We have friends Holly & Mark who own a moving company. I talked to Mark and he said he'd send a couple of guys over the next day. I asked what it would cost and he said just give them each some cash. I gave them each $25.00 and it was worth every penny.

Well, those two guys came over and within 20 minutes they had it in the room. They told me they would be busy, if I ever wanted to move it again.

Well this is the library/T.V. room with the couch in it. Now I can tell the room needs painted and I need to freshen it up a little.

A Beautiful Wedding in Pennsylvania...

These are my two nephews. Ben is on the left and Mike is on the right and the best man. Mike is single and lives in Montana.

Ben asked me if he should wear these Steeler cuff links a friend had given him. I said absolutely. He has four season tickets to the games that have been in our family since my brothers were in college.

I helped him put on his cuff links.

The wedding was held in Foxburg, PA at this beautiful in along the river.

These are Chelsea's parents giving her away.

Chelsea's little nephew was the ring bearer but nobody trusted him with a pillow or the rings. Chelsea's sister is the Matron of Honor.

They had planned to have the wedding outside but it rained during the ceremony. The sun came out just after the ceremony so we got some outdoor pictures.

This is my brother Paul and sister-in-law LuAnn. LuAnn just retired after 32 years of teaching. Paul retires tomorrow. I believe the smile on LuAnn's face says, "finally....grandchildren".

The restaurant was along the river and it was so pretty there. They had hors d'oeuvres while pictures were being taken. The lunch was filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. Yummy!

These cupcakes were delicious. They were filled with strawberries, raspberries and a couple of other things. They were delicious.

I thought this would make a pretty photo for the back of the album I'm giving them.

They decided to miss hurricane season and go on their honeymoon in November to the islands.

Kissable Lipstick...

Did you know that this lipstick will last all day and when you kiss someone on the cheek it won't come off.

My cousin Betsy told me about it when she was here this summer and it works! She called it Grandma lipstick because we are always kissing our grandchildren and they hate lipstick marks.

I'm flying to Pittsburgh, PA tomorrow to attend my nephew Ben's wedding. I won't be back until next week so Mr. Bird Nest will be holding down the fort. I'll bring back lots of pictures of the beautiful bride and groom.

Reading Glasses Giveaway...

I had an eye appointment last week and the doctor changed my reading glass prescription from 2.0 to 2.5. Since I've had a pair in every room in my house, I decided to give them away.

The ones with sunglasses in came from Peepers.com. I got them to read outside by the pool.

The pair at the top are Foster Grants that I just bought two weeks ago for $15.00.

I found these two pieces of Pottery at T.J. Maxx. The little plate was 2.99 and the larger one 3.99. They just brighten up my shelf and make me smile.

I got this bowl at T.J. Maxx too for 10.00. I just loved all the colors and I found out when I got home the dots on the dish matched my candle sticks.

I had this on the center of my table and Nicholas (he's 9) said, "Hey Papa, look at the pretty bowl Nana bought today". I had to explain that we don't always tell Papa about the things we buy.

Our daughter-in-law Elizabeth recently took Lauren (K-4) and Carson (2nd grade) to have some photos taken. Elizabeth knew it was going to be hard to control the kids when the photographer said instead of "cheese", say "booger nose".

A Life Cut Short...

We got an early call the morning of Saturday, August 20 from Hud's sister. I was still sleeping and Hud came into the bedroom to wake me. His sixteen year old nephew Connor had taken his own life the night before. We needed to get in the car and go to PA to support his brother, his wife and the rest of the family.

I would be the first to tell you that Hud and I didn't really know Connor in the way a lot a people are lucky enough to know their nephews. He had never been to SC to visit us, and our annual trips to PA didn't allow time to spend with a busy teenager who didn't really know us and had his own life. We, of course, had seen him and spent time with him but it was rare.

I learned a lot about Connor, speaking to his family and friends over the last week. He was an avid hunter, YMCA lifeguard, baseball player, Varsity football player and just an all-around outdoors-man. He had many friends and was always the life of any gathering. He wasn't afraid to look "goofy" or dress strangely just to make someone laugh.

My brother's wife was one of his teachers at the local high school and she said she rarely has had a student who was brighter or blessed with more potential.

Connor was lucky enough to spend his entire life in our tiny PA hometown of 4000, where everyone knows everyone else. The support his family received was just remarkable. The visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday was from 1:00 - 9:00. Tom, Beth and Tom's brother (Hud) and their sisters Sue and Anne finished greeting visitors at around midnight. People waited in line for 3 to 4 hours to pay their respects.

Connor's old brother Christian just graduated from high school this year and today he leaves for his first year of college at Westminster in PA. I'm sure that long ride home after they drop him off it will be a tough one for his parents.

Connor's parents, Tom and Beth, are wonderful parents. They coached, supported, taught and loved Connor more than a lot of parents do. There was always a big bunch of kids in their den playing X-Box or some other game. Beth is an attorney and she kept her practice very small and restricted so that her main focus could be her boys.

When I was in my twenties, one of my best friends, who was one of my bridesmaids, took her life. I've never forgotten her and I never will.

I was reminded this week how I used to make my boys watch after school specials (with me) about suicide. After about 10 or 15 of those they said, "Look, Mom we appreciate your lessons but we're OK and we're getting depressed just watching these things". Well, now I worry about my grandchildren but the boys learned those lessons well. They would be the first to grab their children and get them help, if they saw anything that didn't appear right.

Please, talk to your children, talk to your friends. There isn't an age limit on depression or those feelings that you just can't go on. I've been there and if you need it, get help. I or any of your friends or family will be glad to listen.

Connor was laid to rest on the day he was planning to take his driver's test. Rest well in God's arms Connor and we hope you find the peace and answers you were searching for.

Most of their merchandise is for men but they also have women's clothes.

I found these great jeans at Cabelas.com. Have you ever shopped there? The quality is really good and I usually shop at the Bargain Cave. That's all their merchandise that's on sale.

The last jeans I got there 3 years ago were a size 16. Well, I've lost some weight and finally gave them away. I got size 12's but I probably could have fit into a ten. They were $20. a pair and soft as can be.

Hud has been telling me since I was diagnosed with RA that I needed to lose weight and I have been. Part of the weight gain was being on steroids. Wow can you gain weight on those. I've gone from 168 when I had my knee replacement surgery to about 136 now. I've always been thin so it was tough to think about losing the weight. I took my time, changed my diet and didn't exercise. I garden and consider that exercise. The rest of the year I try to walk more.

You can see one bird I already painted.

Once these were spray painted in a satin finish, I super glued them to our iron bed.

I also got this adorable phone for our bedroom. It was $85 in most magazines but at Amazon I got it for $44 including shipping

Never Enough BLING...

Chloe was over last week to spend two days with Papa and I. We swam most of the first day and Papa took us to Crackle Barrel for dinner.

Now when Chloe and I get ready to go somewhere, I sit at my vanity to get ready. Chloe follows me. It used to just be lip gloss and a little Chanel #5 but last week we progressed. She now wears a headband when she's here (cause I do).

Well anyway.......I was putting in my pierced earrings and Chloe found a pair of big black sparkly earrings I haven't worn since Hud and I went on a cruise. She asked if she could wear them and I said no. Too much bling. She's all about the bling. Did I mention she now carries a purse most of the time? That night it was her Panda purse. Well, I hunted all through my jewelry box for some clip-ons she could wear. We finally agreed on these. Let me tell you, she sat at the table like a Princess and smiled at everyone.

I just wanted to hug her to death!

She's looking too cool here to grin.

Being the great Nana that I am, I sent the pictures to her parents the next morning and said I got her ready for school with pierced ears.

My son Rick called the next morning early and said what have you done?

Revenge for Rick's teen years.....SWEET. Sorry Noelle, you get it and didn't do anything.

Her 2nd day here, I made my special P & J sandwiches like I used to make for Chloe's Daddy. Little gingerbread men.

How does my garden grow??? HUGE!!!

My cucumbers are over-riding my garden. Now they are climbing the arbor over the walkway. That's easy picken'.

Look at the size of this one. Those were part of dinner last night. Cucumbers and onions in sauce. Yum. Yum.

You can see my cucumbers and zinnias are taking over my garden. Believe it or not, I have pepper plants in there and they are actually producing.

The tomatoes are doing well too.

Burpee seeds are just the best.

Nicholas and Chloe had a vegetable and flower sales at the bottom of the driveway last week and sold everything. My two young entrepreneurs! They've already decided we're going to have to go with a larger garden next year.

A new puppy in the family...

Chris, Elizabeth, Carson and Lauren have a new boxer puppy named Maximus.

Nicholas and Chloe were at our house this week and were dying to go see it, so we went visiting.

Carson just loves having a buddy to play with. Elizabeth said training Max has been easier than with the kids.

Chloe just loved him.

I think Max is only about 6 weeks old so he's going to be one big dog.

I bet these three cousins (along with Lauren) are going to have a great time growing up with this sweet puppy.

Finished Bedroom...

I added a few plates on the wall and my mother's quilt. When I think of her bedroom, I see this quilt.

The paint in the room is a really pale yellow.

We moved my vanity to the other side of the room. I have a lot more space there.

The shell cross and the beautiful pitcher were given to me by Dawn Gahan of the Gahan girls.

Since we got rid of some furniture I put some of our sports awards on the wall. Two of my Daddy's basketball pictures, my husbands"Little 10" Championship photo and one of my cow ribbons for 1st place showing a cow.

I still like the white coverlet so I'm not changing it for a while.

We got a new ceiling fan that is kind of pretty and cool.

The Garden...

My garden has been very successful again this year. I don't plant a lot but it is so much fun to just walk out to the back yard and choose some veggies for dinner.

There's a little cucumber you can see on the right had corner.

I've also got oodles of zinnia's, sweet red peppers, green peppers, tiny little tomatoes and big beef steak tomatoes.

The cucumbers have even grown under the fence. Now I just have to keep Mr. Bird Nest from running over them. See that cucumber growin out through the fence.

Chris, Elizabeth, Carson and Lauren came over to swim today. It was the perfect time to swim. The water was a little cool since we hadn't put the solor cover on last night.

We're really enjoying the pool since Mr. Bird Nest moved it from chemicals to salt water. The water is much softer and feels really good on your skin.

Painting the bedroom...

This was our bedroom until today. It's not a huge room and Mr. Bird Nest usually lets me do what I want in the house, but I'm not usually allowed to do much in the bedroom.

Mr. Bird Nest has ordered a ceiling fan for the bedroom. I got total approval over what it looks like. With the July 4th holiday it will probably not arrive as quickly as I want.

Well, this is our bedroom this morning. What a disaster!

Thank goodness we have a guest room to sleep in.

We're getting rid of the black TV cabinet and the black shelves.

This Pennsylvania House chest of drawers is going to go where the TV cabinet was, with the TV on top. My vanity is going to go where the chest of drawers is. It will be so much prettier there.

This is the new paint. It's a very pale yellow. I don't know how I convinced Mr. Bird Nest to paint it so light.

I tend to get a little depressed with to many dark rooms and I'm looking forward to adding another light room to our house.

For those of you who have asked...I had an MRI last Monday on my left hip and back. My doctor is out of town until July 8. Hopefully, he will have some answers for me then.

A New Cow Picture...

When I was antiquing with my sister-in-law LuAnn in April in Punxsutawney, PA (yes where the groundhog sees his shadow), I spotted this painting for $10.00.

LuAnn likes to tell the story, that I practically knocked her over and hit her with my cane trying to get to the picture.

After 21 years here in the South, I'm much too genteel to do such a thing. I might have stumbled a little with my bad knee and pushed her out of the way but that was it.

It had a lot of what looked like mold on it. I checked on the internet and got most of it cleaned off.

Nicholas and I went to the framing shop this week and he helped in choosing the frame.

This is Chloe's graduation from Nursery School. Next year she will attend all day Kindergarten at Mountain View Elementary School where Nicholas attends.

Chloe was one of the few well-behaved kids from her class.

Chloe with her Mom Noelle at graduation. Rick was there but he had to go back to work and I didn't get his picture with Chloe.

Noelle invited all of us to lunch at Mary's in Downtown Greenville. Nicholas took the day off from school so he could attend. Chloe was so excited about going to lunch and having presents. Olivia is Misty's daughter and one of the children's best friends.

Awards Day at Nicholas' School

This past Tuesday was Nicholas' awards ceremony at school. His Mom and Dad both had to work, so I filled in for them.

He received A-B Honor Roll for the entire year, a member of Student Council pin, perfect attendance last quarter.

He will be moving on to 4th grade next year.

Two Visitors from Las Vegas...

My cousin Bill's daughter Kelly came here a few weeks ago to visit Rick and his family. Kelly lives in Las Vegas and just retired after spending many years as a 911 Supervisor.

Kelly brought Sully on the plane with her. She backed him into the underneath part of the seat in front of her and he rode all the way to South Carolina there.

You can't believe how much Kelly was able to teach Mallie in those few day. She was a good dog before but she's a great dog now.

Kelly is teaching Mallie how to climb stairs.

Chloe was worried Sully would smush Mallie.

They loved this game.

Kelly trains "Canine Companions for Independence" in her spare time. She raises Service Dogs, Hearing Dogs, Facility Dogs and Skilled Companions. Kelly told me with my severe form of rhematoid arthritis I would be eligible for one of these dogs. I go to the orthopedic surgeon on June 21 and find out what kind of surgery he wants to do. I think I will try to get one of these dogs then.

Nicholas and Chloe had a great time with Sully and Millie. I think they wanted to keep Sully and Kelly here.

On our way home from Dollywood we stopped North of Asheville to do some gem mining. No, I didn't find any huge diamonds but our grandchildren had a great time getting wet and messy.

Now the interesting part of the trip was that they also had an antique shop in the store.

Easter Egg Hunt at Bird Nest Cottage

Rick brought his new dog (a lab puppy) over for everyone to see.

Carson and Lauren are looking forward to getting their own Boxer puppy this summer.

This was a picture that my mother had.

This was a calendar from my parents dairy that the used for promotion in 1961. Unfortunately, I don't have one of these. I almost put it in my suitcase.

This is the cherry corner cupboard that came from my parents house. The glassware collection is just some that LuAnn has.

I think this little cupboard is a reproduction but I love it.

They have three great windows over their counters and sink. Along the way....more sheep.

A Winter Wonderland.......

We just got back a few days ago from a trip to PA. We had snow or sleet every day we were there.

This is Mr. Bird Nest is in front of our car and those are his parents. I stayed with my brother Paul and SIL LuAnn on their farm. It's the only way we get to see so many people is to divide and visit separately.

The ride home was wonderful.

Reorganized Living Room

I rearranged my living room with my new shelving. I have another way I'm thinking of moving things in this room. Yes, I'm compulsive.

I've arranged my shelves so that the bottom shelves have all our grandchildren's books that they like to read. Another shelf has all their games. I love that they can choose what they want and then we have a great place to read.

I got this idea of putting loose pictures in a dish or basket so that people can just look at them.

We have more games and puzzles than I allowed for.

Between books and magazines, it's a miracle I every get anything done.

Home made dust ruffle in the master bedroom...

I bought this fabric last summer and I've been putting off making the dust ruffle.

I just can't get enough toile! I have plenty of fabric to make a few pillows.

Sorry I've been absent for a while. I need to have my left knee replaced and it's left me with almost no energy and constant pain. I go for my infusion the 2nd week of March and I'll get a referral to Dr. Jennings my knee replacement surgeon.

The company that it came from recommended you place ice cubes around the outer edge of the container every other day. Our grandchildren come racing in the door when they come over. The first thing they want to do is place the ice cubes.

I have to go get some sticks today to tie it up on.

Wood Ducks and Draperies Rehung...

Rick and Nicholas were up at 5:00 a.m. this morning and out in the woods hunting. I wouldn't even get up that early for a free giveaway at Home Goods. OK, I might. Nicholas got 3 wood ducks all by himself.

I'm glad Mr. Bird Nest doesn't hunt any more. I can get more done around the house.

These curtains in the Master Bedroom were up above the baseboard. I don't know what I was thinking when the mister put them up but it has been rectified. Sylvia, this is for you. She told me they were too short and I knew it, but I have to pick and choose how many jobs I can get Mr. Bird Nest to do.
